Ingredients

Burgers

  • 1 lb fresh ground chuck
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 sesame seed buns

To dress

  • 4 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg

  • 16 crinkle-cut dill pickles
  • 8 slices beefsteak tomato

Method

  1. Set up a grill with a hot side and a cool side.
  2. Press the beef into four thin patties ½ in wider than the buns. Season well.
  3. Grill over the hot side about 2 minutes, turn 90° and cook 2 minutes more until well charred and juices bubble on top.
  4. Flip, add cheese and move to the cool side. Toast the buns over the heat.
  5. Spread mayo and ketchup on both buns and layer lettuce, onion, pickles and tomato on the bottoms.
  6. Rewarm the patties over the hot side for 30 seconds, add them and close.
